Math-1:
A machine X can print one lakh books in 8 hours, machine Y can print the same number of books in 10 hours while machine Z can print them in 12 hours. All the machines are started at 9 A.M. while machine X is closed at 11 A.M. and the remaining two machines complete work. Approximately at what time will the work?
Solution:
So, the work will be finished approximately 2 hours after 11 A.M., i.e., around 1 P.M.
Answer: 1 P.M.
Math-2:
A man went downstream for 28 km in a motor boat and immediately returned. It took the man twice as long to make the return trip. If the speed of the river flow were twice as high, the trip downstream and back would take 672 minutes. Find the speed of the boat in still water and the speed of the river flow.
Solution:
Let,the speed of the boat = p kmph
And the speed of the river flow = q kmph
Downstream speed=(p+q)kmph
Upstream speed=(p-q)kmph
From given data,
2*{28/(p+q)} = 28/(p-q)
Or, p = 3q———-(1)
Again second condition, The speed of the river flow = 2q
Downstream speed=(p + 2q) kmph
Upstream speed=(p – 2q) kmph
According to the question,
28/(p+2q) + 28/(p-2q) =672/60
Or, (28/5q) + 28/q = 672/60
Or, q = 3
Hence, the speed of the boat = p kmph = 3*3= 9 kmph and the speed of the river flow = q kmph = 3 kmph.
Answer: 9 & 3 kmph
Math-3:
Three pipes A, B and C can fill a tank in 6 hours. After working at it together for 2 hours, C is closed and A and B can fill the remaining part in 7 hours. How many hours will take C alone to fill the tank ?
Solution:
1/A+1/B+1/C= 1/6
In 2 hour= 2/6= 1/3
Remain= (1-1/3)= 2/3
Now,
(A+B), 2/3 part can fill in = 7 hr
1 part= 7*3/2= 21/2
1/C= 1/6-2/21= 1/14
1/14 part fill by C in = 1 hr
1 part in = 14 hour
Answer: 14 hour
Math-4:
Rahim has 30 marbles, 18 red & 12 blue marbles. Karim has 20 marbles. The ratio of red & blue marbles is equal to Rahim marbles. How many more blue marbles Rahim has?
Solution:
The ratio of Rahim`s red and blue marbles = 18:12 = 3:2 = The ratio of Karim`s red and blue marbles
According to the question,
5x = 20 [x be common term]
Or, x = 4
Karim`s marbles, blue = 2*4 = 8, and red = 3*4 = 12
So, More blue marbles Rahim`s has = 12-8 = 4 (ans)
Answer: 4
Math-5:
A train traveling at 20 m/s completely crosses another train having 192 meters length traveling in same direction at 15 m/s in 1.5 minutes. In what time will they cross each other traveling in opposite direction and length of the faster train is?
Solution:
Let, Length of the faster train = L m, and time of cross each other = t sec
According to the question,
1.5*60 = (192+L)/(20-15)
Or, 90*5 = 192+L
Or, L = 450 – 192 = 258 m (ans)
Now, t = (192+258)/(20+15 ) = 450/35 = 90/7 sec = 12.86 sec (ans)
Answer: 12.86 sec
